ALBEROBELLO
SOUTHERN ITALY
The Trulli houses started in the are used to be farmland in the 16th centuries. Later people start to build a house only using the limestone that is abundant in the area. Having to use only stones, people found in the round form with the self-supporting domed roof is the simplest configuration. The roofs were embellished with decorative pinnacles representing the signature of the architect. Rick Steves, American travel writer said, "The trulli of Alberobello, their domed roofs and conical tops, stand like Stonehenge in miniature, scattered across the countryside, as if beamed down from another planet."
Situated in the southern part of Italy, this is one of those places that are out of this world!. I remember drove straight from Sorrento, we arrived in the evening and couldn't see much that time. Then in the next morning when we walk out of the hotel and seeing this town is like being on the Star Wars movie set. Alberobello is uniquely beautiful and very well preserved. Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
